WET START TO WINTON FOR MCNALLY’S V8 AUSSULT
1 August 2008
Mark McNally got off to a flying start today as he hit the track at Victoria’s Winton Raceway for Round 5 of the Fujitsu V8 Supercar Series.
With two practice session scheduled both were interrupted by rain as the skies opened up and made for a slippery day of practice.
The first practice session allowed for a short period of dry track time late in the session which Mark took full advantage of.
Second fastest in that session was a great way for Mark to start his weekend after the disappointment of Queensland Raceway.
“I am so pumped about this weekend and to be fast from the start is a real relief,” he said.
“Speed has not been the problem this year as we have always got there in the end.
“This weekend we have a strong base to start from in either wet or dry conditions which we can build from and hopefully be on the pace a lot quicker.”
The second session was also wet with the fastest periods of the session being at the start and the end as rain came down mid-session.
Mark finished 13th in that session but was in the top 5 for most of it before ‘roading’ some wet tyres in preparation for tomorrow. (Roading is when the tyres are used for a few laps to take the wax surface off them which is very slippery is the wet).
“It is good to know that I am fast whether it is wet or dry.
“We have got off to a good start and hopefully it lays down the foundation for the rest of the weekend.”
Mark has qualifying tomorrow followed by Race 1 with Race 2 and 3 on Sunday.
