MCNALLY IN AWE OF THE MOUNTAIN
9 October 2008
West Coast Racing’s Glenn McNally got his first look at Mount Panorama Bathurst today in his V8 Ute and realised why it is known as one of the most daunting tracks in Australia.
Having never driven the circuit before today Glenn knew that it would be a steep learning curve with just one practice session before qualifying for tomorrow’s race 1.
“This is an awesome place,” Glenn said.
“It is a confidence track and I am building up my confidence to push as hard as I have to be on the pace.”
Glenn used the first session today to get a feel for the circuit and get valuable laps in.
“I really could have used another session before qualifying,” he said.
“I gained five seconds between practice and qualifying today.”
Glenn qualified 26th for tomorrow’s race and knows he needs to get up to speed quickly.
“I definitely race harder than I qualify and even though I am back a fair way I still want to push for the top 16 in race 1.”
Glenn is one of the only drivers not to have raced at Bathurst before and utilised some of the footage from Grant Johnson’s car after qualifying.
“He is definitely on edge all the way and that is clearly what I need to do; it is a confidence thing.”
Glenn has one race each day from tomorrow (Friday) until Sunday.
