MCNALLY 6TH IN V8 UTES AT WINTON
3 August 2008
Glenn McNally once again used the reverse-top-16 Race 2 to propel himself up the order at Winton Raceway today for Round 6 of the V8 Utes Series where a second place set him up for 6th overall.
After struggling for speed in qualifying Glenn got himself into the all-important top 16 at the end of Race 1 by pushing from 19th to 14th in that race.
The reverse-top-16 Race 2, which Glenn has made a specialty of, saw Glenn start from grid 4 before a strong start and fast early laps got him into second place for the bulk of the race.
“I have really used the reverse-top-16 races to my advantage this year,” Glenn said.
“I took a bit of time to get up to speed this weekend but we got there in the end; it is a credit to guys for getting the setup sorted out as well.”
“I need to keep on working on getting up to speed quicker at each meeting but while we continue to go to tracks I have not been to it is going to happen a lot.”
The final race saw Glenn start and finish in sixth place, but it was not all plain sailing as he fought off one of the strongest attacks from those around him.
“I got up to fifth at one stage but lost it a few laps later.
“The competition was tough with a lot of fast guys around me; door rubbing is practically compulsory in this class!
“I was able stay with Grant Johnson (Glenn’s team mate) except for when I had to fight off the pressure from behind.”
Glenn amassed enough points to finish 6th for the round and as the top Rookie in the Series, his second top ten finish in a row.
The next round is at Mt Panorama Bathurst on 9-12 October and it will give Glenn his first laps around the daunting mountain circuit.
“I can’t wait for Bathurst, it will be a dream come true but there is a level of fear and respect for such a tough circuit.
“If I can repeat the sort of results that I have in the past few rounds I will be extremely happy.”
